The USPTO’s Inventor Info Chat webinar series continues on Feb. 15 from 11 a.m. to noon ET when they will provide a presentation on claim drafting.

Presentation overview:

• Gain awareness of the questions to answer before claiming your invention;
• Learn how patent claims can be written, what to emphasize, and what to avoid; and
• Learn about one possible approach to drafting patent claims.

The patent office will discuss the parts of the claim and will include claim illustrations from issued U.S. patents. The presentation will be particularly helpful for those inventors considering filing a patent application and for those who are currently prosecuting their patent application.

I would like to congratulate my client Michael Hagen of Tolland, CT for receiving a patent on his Vehicle Gutter Spout Cover. This was a hard patent to get to issue!

This invention is generally a cover that goes over the spout of a gutter on an RV. The gutter spout cover protects an RV cover from being damaged by the gutter spout, when the RV is being stored away. The patent office kept on rejecting this patent application until I was forced to file an appeal brief in order to finally get the USPTO to allow the patent application to issue.
